this issue: I. Making the call Have you ever wanted to do something, but didn't simply because it required you to make a phone call? Maybe it was something small, like wanting to get your teeth cleaned, but you dreaded making the phone call to make the appointment. Or maybe it was something significant, like wanting to follow a job lead, but you were too nervous to make that necessary initial phone contact. I still struggle with this sometimes, too (I mean, who wants to go to the dentist?). But I had such a positive result from actually making that call this week that I had to share it with you. It reminded me that the more I do the things I fear, even if it's just a phone call, the more confident and less fearful I become, which makes that next call that much easier to make. My experience? An opening for a columnist for our local paper became available. I called immediately, and I got an interview an hour later. By the end of the interview, I had landed the column. Fantastic! So, what
did I do? I called, I asked for the meeting, I ask for the column, and
I got it. Is there a phone call that you need to make which will contribute
positively to your life once you make it - even if it's just the simple
satisfaction of crossing it off your to-do list? If so, then pick up
the phone! I'm going to go call my dentist now. II. Asking for what you want in your business, part 2 Last week, we talked about Asking Questions as a way to boost your business. This week, we'll cover another strategy to add to your business success toolkit: Ask for Business. Believe it or not, more than half of all people who make presentations of their product or service never ask for the sale or the order at the end of the presentation. This is one of the golden rules of a successful business: Always Ask for Business. Always. Here are
some ways you can close the sale: The key to these questions is that it automatically elicits a "yes" or "no" response. But you have to ask to get the YES! In my business program for entrepreneurs, one of the key strategies we work with is teaching ethical selling skills, which makes asking for business easy and painless. From behind the barn door… I'm thrilled about my new adventure into the world of column writing. I toiled in it a long time ago, but nothing like this, so I'm just tickled pink that I get the opportunity, both to write the column itself as well as to get to know more people in my little village here, since we are still relatively new to the area. So, between that and James' very likely upward movement in his work, we've got a few things to celebrate this weekend. I'm thinking a couple of steaks on the grill along with a couple of cold brews on the deck. Wish you were all here to join us! Enjoy your weekend wherever you are! Cheers ~ Alicia
